Wales May 2015

Thurs 28th

We set of at about 1.15 and called at Asda for fuel, it was pleasant and sunny, there was quite a lot of traffic. We arrived at Devils Bridge and missed the site, we had to go into a railway station at park and unhitch the car to turn round. A very pleasant young lady on reception. I couldn't get a signal on my phone and she let me use hers to contact Emma about Shannon’s tests.

We walked down to the bridge and found it was about an hour to walk to the falls so decided to leaves trill morning as it was gone four o'clock.

We had tea and a game of cards.

Rich suggested we stay another night rather than move down to Lampeter, it was very wet as it had rained all night and was still raining so no use going to see the falls.

We took the car to meet Caron and the children then went for a Meal in the BlackLion in Lampeter. It was a bit better weather in the afternoon but we decided we were too tired to go to falls. Watched some TV.

Sat 30th

A nice morning so we got to the falls as they opened at 9.30. It was a very difficult path with very steep steps but well worth the effort. Back to van and packed up set off at 12.00.

The Woodlands site was excellent with lovely facilities and in a very pretty area. Lots of bluebells around.

We arrived at Harlech at 2.45, having stopped on the way for lunch at a picnic spot. We parked and had a quiet couple of hours before tea then took a walk to the beach.

Sun 31st

It seemed to have rained all night and was raining when we got up, took the dog a short walk and had a quiet day in van. It was sunny and cloudy in the afternoon but a cold wind.

Mon June 1st

It seemed to rain all night again but was quite bright when we woke, this didn't last long and it started raining again and was windy.

We went to Portmeirion, we were lucky that the rain did ease for a while as we walked round, it is a very pretty and interesting place and we would have liked to wander around for longer but the rain got heavier again so we went into a café. As we came out of the café we saw a small train taking people through the woodland walk so decided to get on it which was lucky because just as we got in the heavens opened. We went through woodland with many huge trees and lots of rhododendron and azaleas flowering, some of the rhododendrons were huge trees.

We went back to the car and drove to Cricieth, Portmadoc and Pwhelli, we got fish and chips in Pwhelli and ate them in the car park. The rain was too bad to want to get out at all. Called at Aldi on way back. Stayed in van for rest of the day with rain and wind battering the van. Next doors awning was blown down and a couple more on site. It seemed to have been raining for 24hrs non stop.

Tue June 2nd

The weather was slightly better today, the rain held off for the most part but it was very windy.

We walked into Harlech, it was a very steep climb, the town seems to hide behind the castle. There was some work being done on the castle. We walked through the town, very small but picturesque, would have been nice to longer but weather not conducive. We walked back a different way and we found a phone and binoculars in the road, we took it back to the newsagents and I phoned one of the contacts, it was a boys on a school trip so we left it with the shop to be collected.

Afternoon in the van

Wed 3rd

Moved on to Conwy, weather a lot better, sunny but still breezy. We arrived at the site and set up, a small, pretty site with great views, had lunch and a quiet afternoon. We went to Gill & Colin’s and they made us a lovely meal, had a good catch up.

Thurs 4th

A lovely morning, Colin called for us and we went to Llanfairfechan and had a drink in a beach front tea room then on to llanberis, we were going to go on a trip into the hydro electric mountain but they were booked up. Had a look at the trains and lunch then drove through beautiful countryside, Snowdonia, to Llandudno. Gill and I had a look at the shops the men went on the pier and for a drink, it was lovely and warm.

Had an hour or so sitting in the sun then they called for us again and we went for a pub meal
