Cotswolds Sept 2014

Fri Sept 12th 2014
Left home about 1.10, a diversion round Harley Bank as road closed. Arrived at Riverside caravan Park, Wainlode at 3.20, it was lovely and sunny and warm while we set up. We sat outside for a while then went to the pub, Red Lion, for a meal.

 Sat 13th
A very misty morning which took a while to clear. We went to Bourton on Water, we were lucky to find a parking space and had a walks round the town, it was very busy and warm when the sun came out, we had a cup of tea overlooking the town, there was a couple with a horse and trap pulled up outside. We carried on and drove through Stow on the Wold where there was a double decker bus carrying a wedding party in the square. We made our way back on back roads trying to avoid Cheltenham. After lunch Wyn & Carol came on their bikes to see us. We took the dog for a walk then had a tea, a bit of TV before bed, we have a new arial!

Sun 14th
Misty again this morning and took quite a while to clear. We went to Westonbirt Arboretum which was very interesting, the sun came out and it got quite warm. It was a large site and had many varieties of Acers, we were a bit early to see all the autumn colours, we had a picnic sitting in the sun by a small dew pond. It was very busy with lots of families and dogs. When we went For a meal at the pub it was closed so we set off looking for somewhere and came upon a pub which was now a Chinese, Garmin took us to it. It was an all you can eat but not a Buffett, everything was cooked to order, it was very good.

Mon 15th
Another misty morning, not quite as bright. We went to Cotswold Farm (Adam's farm from Countryfile) it was very interesting, well laid out with lots of things for children, hands on animal handling, we saw Adam and Ellie who was visiting him. We took the farm safari, a tractor trailer ride, and then walked round looking at all the rare breeds, it was overcast and mizzleing but by the time we left the sun had come out. A drink in the cafe then back to the van. A pleasant afternoon sitting out.

Tue 16th
Quite foggy this morning but brighter, the sun broke through by 9.30. We went to Sudley Castle, it was very interesting with great textile exhibits and a few rooms to view with good explanations of the history, there were figures of HenryV111 and his wives in wonderful costumes, Katherine Parr is buried in the church there. We walked around the gardens then had lunch in the cafe, it was warm enough to eat outside. Back to the van for a quiet afternoon. Packed up the awning before tea.

Wed 17th
Very grey and damp this morning. We got away by 09.25 and were home by 11.15, an uneventful journey.
