2018 Sept Norfolk

Norfolk Sept 2018

Fri 7th

Left home at 0940, not a bad run, very busy roads, sunny.

Arrived at Walnut Farm 2.15, when we had pitched it started raining.

Miles travelled 218

Site fees £180

Sat 8th

Overcast this morning, the sun did try to come through a bit. We got the awning up before it started to rain again.

We went to Nelson Head for lunch, it was very busy but we didn’t have to wait for long and it was a very good meal.

After we went for a bit of a drive and ended up by Hapisburgh lifeboat station, we had a walk on the beach, it was a bit breezy and cool.

Watched TV.

Sun 9th

Not quite so cold this morning, breezy and sunny.

We did the dog walk from the site which was very overgrown and hard walking, Rich saw a snake in the bracken.  Otherwise had a lazy day, it got really hot in the afternoon.

Mon 10th

Overcast but quite warm the sun tried to come through but hardly made it.

On his morning walk Rich saw a deer which frightened Crackers!

We drove to Potter Heigham, there is a large store there, Lathams. We had forgotten Crackers lead so we went in and bought a cheap collar and used my handbag strap as a lead. Rich had a coffee while I had a,look round the shop. We then went to Wroxham which we had mixed up with Potter Heigham, there is a shop called Roy’s there and it is where we hired a boat the last time we were there. We had a very nice sandwich then drove back to site.

We had a shower, at £1 for 10 mins we shared it. The shower/ toilet block leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Tue 11th

Quite windy overnight and in the morning, overcast but not cold.

We drove to Cromer for fish and chips, it as busy and raining so not easy to park. We found a chip shop and drove down narrow lanes til we found a layby to eat them.

Rained all the rest of the day but there was a bit of a sunset.

Wed 12th

Overcast again but not cold. We went to Great Yarmouth, it was very busy and difficult to park, I’d forgotten how “ seasidey” it was, lots of amusement arcades etc. We carried onto Caister and then a small place called Hemsby which was like a mini seaside town, again lots of people about. We found a pub which served a lovely carvery.

Thurs 13th

Cold morning but clear skies.

We drove to Walcott and thought we’d take dog on beach but because of coastal erosion it was all concreted, we took a walk along anyway, saw quite a few small birds,  golden plover or similar. We then drove to Hapisburg where we had a bacon bap in small cafĂ©.this is a village that has fallen into the sea because of erosion. We did get down to the beach but it was obvious that the cliffs are very unstable, just mudstone and sand.

Back at the site it was so hot we sat out all afternoon.

Fri 14th

Overcast but a bit milder. Stayed around site except for going to farm shop for some plums. Sunny and breezy.  Went to Nelson Head for meal.

Sat 15th

After a heavy dew it soon warmed up and dried up in a breeze.

We took awning down and packed up.

Hot and sunny again but cooled off when sun went behind clouds.

Sun 16th

Up and away by 0900, not a bad trip, roads very busy once we got to Midlands. Home by 1.40

 219 miles

A nice break, the site was okay but facilities not up to standard. We learned that the place was being bought out and there was a lot of activity going on, clearing barns etc.
